Research from the University of Houston did show that contracting the calf's soleus muscle can lower post-meal blood sugar, but participants did this for about 270 minutes a day while seated, and while their bodies were processing a glucose drink. That is roughly four and a half hours of movement, not 20 repetitions. Similarly, calf exercise does improve blood flow out of the legs, but the studies showing this ran six weeks or longer and were done in people with diagnosed vein problems. No study was found testing 20 calf raises before bed for two weeks, and no named endocrinologist could be traced to this advice. The mechanism described in the caption is accurate, and calf raises are harmless and mildly beneficial, but the promise of a "surprising result within 2 weeks" is engagement framing rather than a documented finding.

There is genuine peer-reviewed research behind the general idea that calf muscle activity affects blood glucose, but it does not describe the protocol in this post.
The foundational work is the "soleus pushup" research from the University of Houston. The study reduced soleus glycogen concentration by an average of 22 mmol/kg because of 270 minutes of soleus pushup contractions, with N = 10 in Experiment I . Clinical summaries of the protocol state that, following the study's guidelines, a person should accrue 270 minutes of soleus pushups over the day, without letting more than four minutes pass without activity . That is roughly four and a half hours of near-continuous heel movement, not 20 repetitions.
A follow-up pilot in prediabetes reported similar directional findings. Ten participants with prediabetes (mean age 53.3 years) first underwent an oral glucose tolerance test while sedentary to establish baseline postprandial glucose, then repeated the test while performing the soleus push-up , and performing the soleus push-up while seated during the OGTT produced approximately a 32% reduction in postprandial glucose excursion compared with the sedentary baseline . Critically, in the original work all 15 subjects completed a three-hour-long OGTT while performing soleus pushups, with the design testing whether contraction intensity affected glucose and insulin reductions . The exercise was performed during glucose ingestion and while sitting, for hours.
On circulation, the calf muscle pump concept is well established, and structured exercise has been tested. A 6-week, home-based exercise program consisting predominantly of toe raises produced significant differences in venous ejection fraction and residual volume fraction, although strength and power improvements did not reach statistical significance . That was a program in patients with venous pathology over six weeks, not two.
