Sieve, and the earliest retrievable description of it appears in a 1946 patent application for PABA tablets: a patent describing 100 mg PABA tablets administered "in doses ranging from 50 mg. to a maximum of 600 mg. per day," which states that "Dr. Benjamin F. Sieve has reported in 1943 in the Medical World, volume 62, pages 251-3, positive results in the pigmentation of 82% of 460" patients treated for achromotrichia . Sieve's own earlier publications describe different and smaller cohorts, which other reviews report inconsistently.
